Busy patients with jam-packed schedules will want to explore same-day crown placement options, such as the Planmeca Fit system. With Planmeca Fit, the patient sees the dentist, who collects and inputs the information necessary to design the crown, and the crown is created by an in-house milling unit while the patient waits. The tooth is prepped for crown placement by removing a thin layer of enamel, and the crown is then bonded to the patient’s tooth at the end of the appointment.
Traditional crowns, in contrast, require an initial appointment where the dentist collects the data and preps the tooth for crown placement. The data is then sent off-site to the dental lab that makes the crown. After about 2-3 weeks, the patient returns to the office to have the crown placed.
In addition to the convenience factor, Planmeca Fit eliminates the need for metal in the crown, which can be unsightly. This is another benefit for patients. Of course, when a crown is being placed to restore damage that affects your smile’s appearance, a minimal wait time is desirable, as well.
If you want to minimize the amount of time you wait to restore a tooth with a dental crown, we invite you to learn more about the Planmeca Fit system offered in our office.
