How Long Before I Start to See Results with Invisalign?

Invisalign Sterling HeightsWith the Invisalign teeth straightening method, teeth being shifted to their correct occlusion is a methodical, slow moving process. While you may not be able to detect changes right away, with each set of aligners, teeth are being moved slightly. Within a couple months you should begin to see subtle changes taking place.

How Does Invisalign Work?

Your dentist begins by taking dental impressions, x-rays, and photographs … these are tools utilized by the Invisalign lab to design and fabricate the aligners that you will use to correct your malocclusion.

A series of aligners are provided with each designed to be replaced every two weeks with the next in the series. With each new aligner, the snug fit will slowly relax as teeth are moving ever so slightly. This process continues until teeth alignment is correct.

Invisalign Advantages

Unlike traditional metal bands and brackets, Invisalign provides unique advantages that make teeth straightening comfortable and easy.

The aligners are transparent. This allows teens and adults of all ages to receive orthodontic treatment without the telltale metal that announces to the world that you are wearing braces.

These “braces” are removable. This means you can continue to enjoy your favorite foods. Simply remove the aligners for snacks and meals … rinse and replace when done. An additional advantage is that you can brush and floss daily without any obstacles.

The aligners are comfortable to wear … there are no wires or any metal to abrade soft oral tissues.

Invisalign aligners are replaced by the patient … this means fewer trips to the dentist as professional adjustments are not needed to keep teeth moving. You will still need to visit the dentist periodically to make sure everything is progressing according to schedule.

The final phase of treatment is very important. You will be provided with a retainer with specific instructions for wearing it. Make sure you follow these directions as failure to wear the retainer as prescribed could result in teeth drifting back. The purpose of the retainer is for your teeth and the bones that hold them in place to develop a memory of their new location.

Whether you have to wear the aligners for several months or much longer, eventually you will enjoy the benefits of straight teeth and a fabulous smile to last a lifetime. Contact our team at Forever Young Dentistry today to schedule an Invisalign consultation.
