Seven New Year’s Resolutions To Improve Your Smile In 2017

  • December 29, 2016

We hope you had a merry Christmas, and we hope you have a safe and happy new year as well. We also hope you will make time to visit Forever Young Dentistry at least a couple times during 2017.

Family dentistry will alway be important in our dentist office in Sterling Heights, MI. But while you here, why not take some time to learn about our cosmetic and restorative dentistry as well?

In fact, we would like to recommend seven resolution that could improve your smile in the coming year.

To make an appointment, call our office at 586-698-7135 or fill out our online contact form.

1. Return to the dentist office

If you haven’t been to the dentist office in a few years due to dental anxiety, it’s time to give Forever Young Dentistry a try. Our compassionate staff will go out of their way to help you feel comfortable.

We use the latest technology to make your dental care as painless as possible. We also offer sedation dentistry for patients who need a little help feeling relaxed.

2. Quit using tobacco

Along with poor oral hygiene, using tobacco may be one of the least healthy things you can do for your mouth. Cigarettes, cigars, and smokeless tobacco increase your risk for cavities, gum disease, and oral cancer.

Using tobacco also makes it more difficult to treat those problems and increases your risk that they could become recurring problems.

3. Fix Your Teeth

In the course of our normal lives, people do things to their teeth.

Maybe you missed a catch during a softball game and part of a tooth got broken.

You may have tried to prove that a jawbreaker wasn’t so bad. In the end, you chipped part of a couple teeth.

Maybe you clench your teeth together when you are angry, and some of your teeth are visible worn down.

Depending on your situation, our team at Forever Young Dentistry may be able to use restorative or cosmetic services to restore the shape of your teeth.

4. Review your daily oral hygiene habits

It never hurts to go back to the basics. It’s easy to get complacent, to start thinking we brushed good enough. Here’s a quick checklist of what you should be doing, according to the American Dental Association:

☐ Brush your teeth twice a day

☐ Brush for two minutes each time

☐ Use toothpaste with fluoride

☐ Use a soft-bristled toothbrush

☐ Clean between your teeth once per day*

* Dental floss is the most widely used tool for this, but it’s not the only way to clean between your teeth. You can find other tools in the toothpaste aisle.

5. Whiten your smile

Over the course of our lives, people eat and drink a lot of things that can stain our teeth. How many cups of coffee have you finished? How many glasses of tea or wine? How many soft drinks and sports drinks?

Food can be equally as bad, even if the food may be healthy for us. Pasta with its rich, colorful sauces are likely to stain our teeth, but so can strawberries and blueberries.

Toothpaste can remove some of the surface stains, but if you want to go deeper, you should try professional teeth whitening.

At our dentist office in Sterling Heights, we use professional strength Crest Whitestrips, Zoom NiteWhite, and the E-Z White Pro™.

Another option is to cover up your discolored teeth instead of removing those stains. Dental veneers can be custom-made to fit your teeth. Veneers can be shaded as white as you would like them to be.

6. Straighten your teeth

Every year, millions of teens and adults undergo orthodontic treatment. Straight teeth look nicer, but there are health reasons to straighten your teeth as well. Straight teeth are easier to clean, which reduces your risk of having cavities and gum disease.

Patients who come to Forever Young Dentistry may be able to use Invisalign® instead of braces. Invisalign uses a series of clear, plastic aligners. Each aligner gently pushes your teeth, and you switch aligners every couple weeks.

If you are a good candidate for Invisalign, you could have a new, straight smile in about 12 months.

7. Replace your missing teeth

Losing your teeth is never a good thing. However, you are living at a good time to replace them.

In modern dentistry, we have dental implants to replace the roots of your missing teeth. These implants are anchored in your jaw, and they and strength, security, and stability to dental crowns, dental bridges, and dentures.

No matter how many teeth you need to replace, we may have a way to help at Forever Young Dentistry.
