How Do All-on-4/All-on-X Implants Work?
For the All-on-4 procedure, four dental implants will be placed in specific parts of your jawbone. The idea is to position the posts in a way that allows them to form a bond with the parts of the jaw with the highest levels of bone density. To this end, the two dental implants near the back of the mouth will be inserted at a 45-degree angle. The implant posts will ultimately support a full denture, thus replacing all of your teeth at once.
All-on-X is very similar to All-on-4; however, less or more than four dental implants might be used depending on the circumstances.
Am I a Candidate for All-on-4/All-on-X Implants?
You are likely to be a candidate for All-on-4 or All-on-X as long as:
- You have lost an entire row of teeth or most of the teeth in your upper or lower jaw.
- You do not have any health conditions that would prevent you from undergoing surgery.
- You do not have gum disease.
It’s worth noting that All-on-4 and All-on-X don’t require as much bone density as traditional dental implant procedures. As such, even patients with less bone in their jaws could still qualify.
Benefits of All-on-4/All-on-X Implants
Choosing All-on-4 or All-on-X means that you will be able to get dentures that stay anchored to your jaw instead of simply resting on your gums. As a result, your replacement teeth won’t slip when you don’t want them to, and it will be easier to clean them.
With the implant posts supporting and strengthening your new smile, you will be able to eat virtually anything you want. Furthermore, the stimulation from the posts will help put a stop to bone loss in your jaw.
All-On-4/All-on-X vs. Traditional Implants
All-on-4 and All-on-X can both potentially reduce the number of implants needed to support a full denture. Furthermore, some patients may require bone grafting before they can receive traditional dental implants; this often isn’t necessary for All-on-4 and All-on-X. Finally, patients who are worried about going without teeth for too long will be happy to know that All-on-4 and All-on-X often make it possible to place dentures on the same day that the implant posts are placed.
